Come on join the (Broad) band

Rebecca Webster of BT describes the potential of ADSL for local authorities and the wider public sector.

Internet users world wide are thought to be growing at a rate of 100% per annum. In 1999 a Durlacher report found that 99% of large businesses are connected to the Internet and SMEs are catching up. Any organisation, regardless of sector, that wants to profit from the new economy, needs to understand the variety of communications technologies on offer and know how to use them to achieve bottom line benefits. The broadband revolution is almost single-handedly driving the market for faster, better quality communications services for a mass audience. But to understand its potential impact, we need to look at the range of technologies on offer and one in particular that will have a phenomenal impact in the short term.
