Awards
scheme raises web profile in Hampshire |
|
Hampshire's
Hantsnet Awards ran for the first time in 2002 and were a runaway
success. With over 500 entries across 9 categories, the awards did
much to raise web-awareness, engage the community, and encourage
business and the community to go online. Julia Herron describes
the project. |

Webcasting |
|
Webcasts
offer considerable potential to widen public participation in the
democratic process. They also have much to offer to making councils
open and accessible. Des Farrington looks at developments across
the UK and identifies some of the issues which arise. |

Creating
websites for e-citizens |
|
UKOLN's
third annual workshop for Public Library web managers focused on
the e-government agenda. The message which came through loud and
clear was that websites absolutely must be developed from a user
perspective. Penny Garrod reports. |

Getting
clever with style sheets |
|
To
add a bit of interest to a web page editors often turn first to
languages and scripts. But style sheets also have their uses in
this respect. Goff Sargent shows us how. |

Leicestershire
Parish Councils Get Online |
|
UK
parishes sometimes seem to have been quite forgotten in the headlong
rush to 2005 and e-Government for everyone. In fact, good parish
council websites are not difficult to find. But many other parishes
still have no website to speak of, and where local enthusiasm does
flourish, the chances of a website surviving an enthusiast's move
out of the village are rarely better than even. Jo Turner looks
at work being done by the Leicestershire Rural Partnership to develop
and sustain good practice in this area. |

EPI
2002 Scotland : conference report |
|
SPIN's
third Scottish conference on 27 November was - like its predecessors
- a highly successful event. Delegates attended from a wide range
of organisation across Scotland along with a scattering of hardy
travellers from as far afield as southern England and the Channel
Islands. Feedback has been overwhelmingly favourable and planning
is already underway for the fourth EPI Scotland conference later
this year. |
