PDFs -AOK?

Many web professionals and Internet enthusiasts keenly embrace PDFs and the advantages they being. But less certain users can struggle to use them effectively - raising questions about accessibility. PDFs also offer far more sophisticated possibilities than even the most expert among us realise. Goff Sargent weighs up the pro's and cons.

PDF – Portable Document Format - is the brainchild of Adobe, the software company that brought you other well-known products such as Photoshop and PageMaker. PDF files are created by the company’s Acrobat software - now in its 7th version. Since version 6 Acrobat has been available in two variants: a standard ‘Acrobat’ and a bells-and-whistles ‘Acrobat Professional’. PDF files created by these products can be read by the freely available ‘Acrobat Reader’.
