TV Health

Some 7.5 million people across the UK now have access to up-to-the-minute health information in the comfort of their own home, following the launch of NHS Direct Interactive on the Sky platform in December. Initially available only to digital satellite viewers, NHS Direct Interactive will be rolled out during 2005 to other digital television platforms, such as Freeview and cable.

By pressing the interactive button on their remote control, viewers will find about 3,000 pages of content, including :

  • an A-Z of health related issues, including hundreds of topics covering illnesses and conditions such as flu, diabetes, coronary heart disease etc;
  • advice on looking after yourself, on diet and nutrition, on exercise, on quitting smoking and on sexual health;
  • video clips on a range of health topics;
  • tips on how to use the NHS - such as how to register with a GP.
