Cornwall gets smarter

Over the last twelve months councils in Cornwall have made rapid progress implementing the Cornish Key - an ambitious project to introduce 50,000 smart cards throughout local communities. Justin Hunt looks at the background to the project and what has been achieved to date in this DTLR-funded Pathfinder project.

It's easy to characterise Cornwall as a slow-paced rural holiday destination. But appearances can sometimes be deceptive. Cornwall is poised to enter the electronic age in a dramatic way.

Cornish councils have joined forces to pilot a highly ambitious project to introduce 50,000 hi-tech smart cards throughout local communities to bring people together and to improve the delivery of key public services.
