WCAG 2.0 preview – So what’s new?Mark Palmer, of User Vision talks us through the developments from WCAG v.1.0 to the new working draft of the WCAG 2.0 guidelines, released on 17 May. Mark outlines what is new, and what remains the same, and he highlights four key principles of web development, how the new technologies are covered and the ‘testability’ of these guidelines.Key Principles Most web developers in the professional arena are familiar with the Web Content Access-ibility Guidelines (WCAG) v1.0. Although these guidelines are vague in many places, they were a major leap forward in making the web more inclusive for users with disabilities. Time has moved on since these guidelines were first published in 1999 and more importantly, so has web technology. The web, and the way we interact with it has changed to such an extent that it is no longer possible to view the web as consisting purely of web pages with limited interaction.
