Angela Frodin describes some tentative steps in the field of true electronic government.

GlosNet the Gloucestershire County Council web site, www.gloscc.gov.uk, has been live for almost two years and during this time the original concept of delivering information about council services in the county, regardless of which tier of local government is responsible, has been well developed. The site also acts as a gateway to any information relevant to those living or working in, visiting or moving to the county.
Council departments have come to recognise that publishing in this way is cost effective and efficient and the council is well on the way to reaching its target of 500 free public access points throughout the county, which will ensure that no user is disadvantaged.
